Originally developed for safe use in fiery coal seams, the Cardox System
is used extensively in opencast and underground coal & ore mining, boulder
breaking, and dimensional stone extraction.
Dimensional Stone Quarrying
With Cardox, you get all the benefits of explosives with none of the headaches:
fewer drill holes, lower noise emission, less waste, and virtually no dust.
Plus no magazine is required and no stemming operation is needed.Use Cardox
for horizontal or vertical applications.
Work
safely in areas adjacent to existing buildings, gas lines, water mains
and petrochemical plants.
With Cardox, you get all the benefits of explosives with none of the
headaches: fewer drill holes, lower noise emission, less waste, and virtually
no dust. Plus no magazine is required and no stemming operation is needed.
Increase the value of your coal or mined ore by using Cardox to dramatically
reduce fine coal/ore and produce more large, clean lump coal/ore.
Fast and efficient, Cardox usually requires fewer holes than conventional
methods and produces less dust. With no need to evacuate the mine, continuous
mining is now a possibility.

Cardox instantaneously produces a powerful heaving force, using carbon
dioxide which cracks and breaks the material along natural and/or
induced fracture plains.
By selecting the thickness of the rupture disc, the power of the Tube
can be regulated to suit all conditions.
One
or more holes are drilled in the material to be broken and the Cardox
Tube(s) are inserted.
A connection is then made from the Tube(s) to a low tension activator,
and on passing an impulse from this to the charged Tube(s), the low tension
electric fuse initiates a rapid reaction in the energizer causing the
liquid carbon dioxide in the Tube to change into gas, increasing its volume
by 600 time in the process.
This instantaneous build-up in pressure reaches the yielding pressure
of the rupture (shear) disc which bursts releasing a heaving mass of carbon
dioxide which breaks the surrounding material.
The whole process takes less than one second.
By selecting the thickness of the rupture disc, the power of the Tube
can be regulated to suit all conditions.
After recovery the Tube, the heater and rupture disc are replaced, the
liquid carbon dioxide recharged and the Tube is ready to be used again.
